This year 2021 will be celebrating its 22nd Anniversary of victory in Operation Vijay which is known as Kargil War. On 26th July 1999, India got success after 60 days of war and took charge at the high outpost of Kargil which was lost to Pakistan intruders, and 26th July is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas. The operation name was Vijay and after the success, it was named Kargil Vijay Diwas.
On this day in 1999, the Kargil War, also known as the Kargil Conflict, formally came to an end, with Indian soldiers successfully recapturing mountain heights.
To commemorate Kargil War between India and Pakistan in 1999, the Indian army built the war memorial known as Kargil War Memorial in Drass, where the actual war took place.
Indian Army has planned the number of events in Delhi and Dras in Jammu & Kashmir.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 26th July to honor Kargil War Heroes who sacrificed their lives for our country. The Indian Government replied with Operation Vijay, a 200,000 Indian troop mobilization. On 26 July 1999, the war formally ended and was called Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The Kargil War was fought for more than 60 days, ended on 26 July and resulted in loss of life on both the sides. The Pakistani army denied involvement in the war, claiming that it was caused by independent Kashmiri rebel forces, however documents left behind by casualties and later statements by Pakistan's Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff showed involvement of Pakistani paramilitary forces, led by General Ashraf Rashid. The war ended with India regaining control of all the previously held territory. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year to honor the heroes of Kargil War. 527 soldiers from Indian Armed Forces lost their lives during the war. This day is celebrated in the Kargil-Dras sector and the national capital New Delhi, where the Prime Minister of India pays homage to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyothi at India Gate every year. Functions are also organized all over the country to commemorate the contributions of the armed forces.
India recalled Captain Vikram Batra on the 21st anniversary of his death, the hero of the War of Kargil. Throughout the Kargil War, Captain Vikram Batra lost his life in battle against Pakistani troops. Captain Batra, at 24 years of age, had been the face of an Indian soldier in the Kargil region, the words of whom still reverberate today - "Yeh Dil Maange More."
The objective of celebrating this day is to elicit the feeling of patriotism and a sense of pride in the men and women serving the nation tirelessly day and night while we are safe and secure from any outside intrusion. And to highlight the stories of valor by our brave soldiers and inspire those who were too young and those who were not yet born in those difficult times to witness the breathtaking courage shown by our soldiers.
