International Day of Yoga 2021




𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 is observed globally, to highlight the importance of yoga in the contemporary era, every year on 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟭. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮. The Indian Prime Minister, 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗶, in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 and shares a special significance in many parts of the world. On the first International Day of Yoga (21st June, 2015) 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗬𝗨𝗦𝗛 made the necessary arrangements in India. 35,985 people, including PM Modi and dignitaries from 84 nations, performed 21asanas (yoga postures) for 35 minutes at Rajpath in New Delhi, becoming the largest yoga class ever held, and with the largest number—84—of participating nations. 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 :- Yoga is derived from Sanskrit and it means to join or to unite. Union of body and consciousness is known as Yoga as it helps to maintain a balanced lifestyle in these changing times. Yoga not only provides physical and mental relaxation but also develops strength and resilience. The numerous benefits of Yoga make it a popular practice for people across the globe, especially in times of a pandemic when mental and physical health is under stress.Practicing asanas and pranayama regulates the purification of the internal system of the organs. The energy generated in the body through these physical exercises is then channelled into meditation for peace, stability and calm. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐘𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞 :- Owing to the raging 𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗-𝟭𝟵 pandemic, in 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 the theme for yoga day was ‘𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆’. The message sent out by the theme was that in these adverse times, yoga will give rays of hope to stay relaxed and fit. Similarly, this year’s theme for International Day of Yoga is ‘𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴.’ ‘Yoga for Well-being’ is the correct theme for this year because it focuses on the holistic health of every individual, which is the need of the hour. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 :- Since Yoga Day for this year will be celebrated amid the pandemic, it is advisable for you to celebrate Yoga Day indoors and by participating in virtual events. Here are some engaging and interesting ways in which you can celebrate International Yoga Day 2021: 𝟭) You can participate in the virtual event hosted by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN and can practice asanas. You can also participate in a panel discussion to discuss this year's Yoga theme. 𝟮) If you are a fitness freak, you can join a yoga retreat and learn new skills and discover new places. An online Yoga retreat is budget-friendly and is easy to access. 𝟯) You can look for an online yoga class and organise a live yoga session with your family and friends. 𝟰) You can also treat yourself to a healthy and low-fat diet on Yoga Day. Try learning a new recipe that improves your well-being 𝟱) You can create a serene, peaceful place at home and can meditate for long hours on Yoga Day.
